Since the 1920’s all municipal water treatment systems used Chlorine as their standard sanitizer. Some treatment centers have started adding Chloramines to tap water- a compound of Chlorine & Ammonia.
Fluoride is added to all community water supply, however the possible health benefit are controversial.
