Before VIQUA Pro series

Before the camp replaced their UV systems with VIQUA Pro20s, they were having constant problems. Alarms were frequent, so maintenance staff were spending the majority of their time with the UV portions of their water system. As so many other areas in the camp needed attention, this situation was not ideal.

They found that temperature changes, even small seasonal changes in a heated pump house, would cause alarms. Humidity and power surges from thunderstorms would also trigger alarms.

Routine maintenance was a whole other issue. “Changing a bulb involved pulling the whole unit apart,” Don recalls. “And, moisture would run down to the base of lamps corroding the lamp contacts. I’d say 9 times out of 10 the porcelain end of the lamp would break off, and I would have to dig out the broken end with pliers.”

They also found the systems to be inconsistent. “We never knew when a problem would occur,” says Don. “A system would be fine for months, and then all of a sudden it would cause problems day after day”. All of these factors went into their decision to switch out all their UV systems for VIQUA Pro20s.

After VIQUA Pro series

When deciding to purchase VIQUA systems, reliability and ease of use were obviously big selling factors. They didn’t want to deal with more alarms or difficult routine maintenance. “Right from the start we were very impressed with the Pro20s because they were so straightforward to install. We were even more impressed when they solved all the problems we were having with our UV systems,” says Don. The camp no longer experiences frequent alarms. Temperature changes, humidity and power surges don’t affect the systems, and, they no longer have to pull the whole system apart to change a lamp.

On top of these improvements, it’s easier for Don to monitor the systems by using the COMMcenter. The COMMcenter is a device that data logs information on system performance in real-time. So, at any time, information such as UV dose, alarms or lamp hours is available. The COMMcenter can be connected to a computer or the information can be transferred using a mini-SD card.

“We’ve seen a printout of our data,” Don explains. “It was neat to see exactly where power outages, and system shut downs took place. It’s a great diagnostic tool and something I can see becoming part of our regular maintenance schedule”, says Don. “Not only will it help us keep a close eye on system performance, it will show us when sleeves need to be cleaned and when bulbs are getting weak. This means we can pre-plan maintenance, and avoid getting alarms. To sum it up, we are extremely happy with our VIQUA systems!”
